Emerging transportation systems\u2014from electrified road vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) to marine vessels and spacecraft\u2014are driven by the simultaneous need for decarbonization and improved operational intelligence. Advanced learning algorithms and optimization frameworks are instrumental in enabling these vehicles to achieve superior energy efficiency, enhanced reliability, and more resilient performance under uncertainty. Implementing the advancements in both learning and optimization can not only enhance the operation of electric vehicles but\u2002also contribute to the overall efficiency and sustainability of transportation electrification systems. This special session invites contributions that address the latest methodological advances, practical implementations, and policy considerations shaping the future of transportation electrification. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:<\/p>

  • Development and application of advanced learning methods in transportation electrification<\/p><\/li>

  • Energy management strategies for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)<\/p><\/li>

  • Energy management of electric propulsion systems in marine and space vehicles<\/p><\/li>

    The Session Chair Muhammad Fahad Zia<\/b> is currently an Assistant Professor at American University in Dubai. He has been recognized as one of the top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University for the past two consecutive years. He is also the recipient 2018 Highly Cited Review Paper Award from Elsevier Applied Energy. His research interest includes power and energy systems optimization, renewable energy systems, smart grid, electric vehicles, cyber-physical system, applied AI, and engineering education. He is also invited as Guest Speaker at different international conferences and forums. <\/p>\n

    The Co-chair Mohamed Benbouzid<\/b> (Fellow, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 1994, and the Habilitation \u00e0 Diriger des Recherches degree in electrical engineering from the University of Amiens, Amiens, France, in 2000. After receiving the Ph.D. degree, he joined the University of Amiens, where he was an Associate Professor of electrical and computer engineering. Since September 2004, he has been with the University of Brest, Brest, France, where he is currently a Full Professor of electrical engineering. He is also a Distinguished Professor at the Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai, China. His main research interests and experience include the analysis, design, and control of electric machines; variable-speed drives for traction, propulsion, and renewable energy applications; and fault diagnosis of electric machines. Prof. Benbouzid is a fellow of the IET. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal on Energy Conversion and the Applied Sciences (MDPI) Section on Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering. He is a Subject Editor of the IET Renewable Power Generation.<\/p>\n

    The Co-chair S. M. Muyeen<\/b> (Fellow, IEEE) is presently working as a Full Professor in Electrical Engineering Department of Qatar University. His research interests are industry-oriented, focusing on power electronics, electrical machines, FACTS, energy storage systems (ESSs), renewable energy, HVDC systems, power system stability and control, and smart grids. He has published more than 225 articles in different journals and international conferences. He has published seven books as an author or editor. He has been a keynote speaker and invited speaker at many international conferences, workshops, and universities. Dr. Muyeen has been the recipient of many research awards, including The Petroleum Institute \u2018Research\/Scholarship Award 2012\u2019 and best paper awards from IEEE conferences many times. He has been awarded the IEEE WA Outstanding Engineering Award 2017, jointly from IEEE PES and PELS societies, for his leadership role, research, and service-related activities. He serves on the editorial panel for many prestigious journals from IEEE, IET, and other publishers including IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy (editor), IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion (editor), IEEE Power Engineering Letters (editor), IET Renewable Power Generation (associate editor), and IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution (subject editor), etc. He is deeply involved with the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) University Education Sub-Committee under the Power and Energy Education Committee (PEEC).<\/p>\n

    The Co-chair Hao Chen<\/b> received the B.E. degree in automation from Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai, China, in 2008, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Nantes, Nantes, France, in 2010 and 2014, respectively. He is presently working as an Associate Professor at Shanghai Maritime University.
